Jakarta’s long-awaited MRT Phase 2 opened to passengers on Monday, adding 12 kilometers of rail and seven new stations that connect the central business district with the historic Kota Tua district.

The project cost roughly 25 trillion rupiah and took seven years to complete, with a mix of sovereign funding and Japanese ODA loans.

Ridership is projected to scale to 1.2 million passengers per day by 2028.
